Artist's Description
The antithesis of the Italian persona, Niki Lauda became a true legend in his own time. Certainly part of this was due to his Nurburgring accident in 1976. However, his personality and skills had a unique impact on the sport as Niki Lauda established himself as one of Formula One’s most extraordinary personalities. The battles between Lauda’s mighty 312 T and the McLarens of Emmerson Fittipaldi in 1974/75 then with James Hunt in 1976/77 became the stuff of racing legend. These days the revered Triple-World Champion is an advisor to Mercedes and always a welcome face in the pitlane. I have been fortunate enough to meet him on several occasions, especially during his days with McLaren in the mid eighties. Niki was very encouraging, signing some early paintings and sketches and making an indelible mark on another lifelong fan!

Very sad to learn of the death of Niki Lauda today. Truly a life lived to the full. The times I met him remain among the most privileged memories I have.
