Artist's Description
Jody Scheckter was the last Ferrari Champion before the drought, ended by Michael Schumacher, of the two decades that followed. Regarded as hugely talented but accident-prone during his early career, Scheckter could also be very quick with a smooth, effortless-looking style that was a joy to watch. In the midst of the ‘Ground Effect’ revolution, the Ferrari 312T4 of the 1979 season was not the ideal solution as the Cosworth-engined Lotus, Williams, Brabham and McLaren teams fielded lighter more nimble racing cars. However, the 312 T4 was a very reliable car, and Jody Scheckter put together a string of consistent finishes, gaining the Championship ahead of his team-mate and great friend Gilles Villeneuve.
